2026 Halfway done report
Jul. 13th, 2026 10:42 amJuly 2026 and I have had a pretty decent year.
For the first I made a bingo card of things I wanted to do this year. Some of them were vague "Go on a date" other were more specific, "go to a cat cafe" and a good chunk of them were spending time with people I care about. I have not yet gotten bingo yet, but I am doing pretty good.
In February we said goodbye to Rebel. He was almost 16 and we had him for almost 14 years. It was hard, there was a lot of crying, but I was grateful that my brother came over to hang out with the boys so Kyle and I could both be there with him at the end.
Then in May we brought home a new kitty. Pistachio is a 5 year old long hair orange boy. I met him at the cat cafe and decided that yes he needed to come home with us. He is currently asleep in the kitty spot on my desk. He will get up on it unprompted now. I have been working hard to being his primary human and I think it is paying off. He hasn't cuddled next to me or on my lap yet, but i have a feeling that once he starts he will not stop.
I have managed to travel quite a bit for work so far. I was in Reno for a week in March for a client conference. This was the second year I was there so it felt pretty chill. Then at the end of June I went down to Orlando for half a week for the first half of another clients conference. I will be moving into working with that client full time so while it was a bit of a jump into the deep end I think that it should be a good fit.
I also went down to DC for my first Hill day. An organization gathered a bunch of people with abortion stories (needing them/getting them and those that weren't able to including people who lost loved ones because of the Dobbs decision). It was emotionally exhausting, but also I got to meet a bunch of people who have similar values, and a bunch of people who were in similar-ish situations as I was in 2020. My uncle came and gave me a hug that morning (since we started at his workplace) and I met with staff of the DC rep as well as the staff of one of my senators. It was my first time sharing my story and doing this kind of advocacy work. I don't think it will be my last.
Other big news this year. I paid off my student loans. They have always been there in my adult life. So it is a little surreal to finally be done paying them.
I think I want to get into the habit of doing more journalling/posting. I know it is good for my brain. And I have been trying to do things that are good for my brain and body.
